When tooth appear?
Usually the first tooth appears in the middle of the 7th month. But sometimes the first tooth can appear earlier than the 2nd month or it can appear later than 12th month. Usually it depends on a genetic factor, i.e. if you or your spouse had the first tooth early, so it is natural that your child will have it as well. In the picture below you can see approximate time of appearance of milk teeth:

What happen when appear the milk teeth?
The symptoms of the milk teeth can appear two or three months earlier than the teeth themselves. These symptoms varies from child to child and actually doctors thoughts in this issue and how painful is the process also varies from doctor to doctor.  It is natural for a child to have the following symptoms:

Salivation : Most of children salivate since two and three months. When a tooth comes out the children usually have an abundant salivation.

Redness on chin or a face : For a child having abundant saliva, it is natural to have redness in chin and face due to saliva and skin contact. In order to avoid it, wipe the saliva accurately all day long and put a napkin under the child’s pillow in order child not to suck its saliva. If dryness occurs on the skin, that area must be rubbed with skin nourishing cream.

Slight cough : Time by time abundant saliva can cause choking and coughing. If your baby has not any symptoms of cold and allergy, then you need not to worry about it. Often babies cough to attract attention or to improve their voice repertoire.

Biting : In this situation biting is not an indicator of enmity. The baby who has a tooth coming out, takes to its mouth everything including its hand, its mother’s breast, or somebody else’s finger, to soothe its gums.

Pain : There occurs swelling on the gums under the pressure of the tooth which bursts out. This situation in some children causes hard pains, whereas in others’ it causes no problems. The first tooth and the molars cause a lot of difficulties in children.

Anxiety : As swelling grows and the sharp tooth approaches to the surface, the pain in the gums of the child can have a permanent character. So the child can be anxious as any man having chronic pain and be far away from its normal state. This anxiety can last for weeks.

Refusal from nutrition : A baby who has a tooth coming out can refuse nutrition. The child who has already begun to eat solid food, can lose interest in them. But it must not worry you. Because your baby takes the vitamins necessary to him from the liquid food also and his appetite will be resumed after the tooth comes out.

Diarrhoea : It is suspicious if the diarrhea is connected with the tooth. Some mothers say that every time when the child has tooth coming out, it has diarrhea. Some doctors think that abundant saliva occurring at the result of the tooth coming out is related with the intestine motions.  But other doctors do not accept this point of view: maybe mothers connect the diarrhea with the tooth, because they do not want accept gastro-intestinal disorders. You must take into consideration that when your baby has a tooth coming out, it will have watery feces. But if diarrhea occurs more than twice, you must consult with doctor.

Temperature : Temperature is also causes different point of views in doctors on the issue if it is related with the tooth occurrence or not. Swelling in gums can be the reason of the temperature under 38 C°'. But in any case, when your child has a temperature, you should do what you usually do in this situation and if the temperature does not go down in two days, you should consult with the doctor.

Sleeplessness : Even the children, who never wake up at nights, can do it when it has a tooth coming out. In this case do not try to feed the baby immediately. On the contrary, try to make him sleep. Wakening at nights often occurs when the first tooth and molar teeth come out.

Hematoma of gingiva : Hematoma of gingiva: Sometimes the tooth can cause bleeding in gingiva and it seems as a blue like spot. This kind of hematomas should not raise anxiety and they will recover without medical intervention. Cold compress can soothe the pain and speed up the recovering process.

Pulling ears, scratching cheeks : The pain in the gingiva can be reflected in an ear or a cheek through nerves. But it must be kept in the mind that the babies pull their ears also when they have an ear infection. Even if your child has a tooth coming out, if you have any suspicions on ear infection, consult with your doctor.

WHAT MUST BE DONE WHEN A TOOTH COMES OUT?
There are a number of tried-and-true treatment ways. Some of them work, the others do not. You can try the ways presented below:

To give something to bite : Here the aim is not to feed, but to soothe the pressure in the gingivas. It will be better if the thing given for biting is cold. Frozen cookie, cold banana or carrot, little piece of ice wrapped to gauze, rubber ring, etc. No matter what you give to your child for biting, you should stay beside him and provide his sitting posture.

The things that can scratch teeth : Some babies sometimes reject them because of the pain at the beginning. But some time later tries to soothe aching area.

Cold drinks : Give cold water to your child with feeding bottle. If the baby rejects it, try to give the cold water with glass. It will meet your baby’s need for water and it will compensate the loss of liquid exuded with diarrhea and saliva.

Cold food : Peach puree, apple puree, sour milk kept in refrigerator can be more attractive for your baby than the food of room temperature.

The pain –killers : In nothing else works, paracetamol will help you easily. But you should consult with your doctor to arrange the right dose. Do not use any other things for the baby’s gingiva without doctor suggestion. Alcoholic drinks are also included here.
